Unicorn Birthday Cake Ice Cream Review

Where do we even start? I knew that birthday cake flavor had become a thing in the last few years, but this is a little over the top. How do they even make unicorn flavor?

Alright, let’s get serious a minute. This Unicorn Birthday Cake ice cream is directly from the Dollar Tree itself. Technically, it’s distributed by Greenbrier International, Inc in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Dollar Tree has a surprisingly large selection of great name-brand frozen foods. They also have a ton of awesome snack foods, too. This outrageous dessert item caught my eye the other day when I was looking around the frozen section and I had to try it out.

As the name implies, there’s no way this could be good for you. In a surprising turn of events, however, it’s actually not terrible (assuming you eat it as part of a balanced diet).

If you want to punish yourself and eat the whole container like I did, you’ll notice that it does put you at 80% of your daily saturated fat.

However, you’ll only be at 30% of your unsaturated fats, so you can feel free to munch on some walnuts, almonds, avocado, etc. because you won’t be overdoing those with the ice cream.

You’ll also find a decent chunk of cholesterol in there, 30% of your daily value. Not too much sodium, that’s good (unless you’re low on sodium for the day!)

There are also a few carbs in this. Eating the whole thing gives you 21% of your daily recommended value. A lot of those carbs do come from sugar, though, and 42 grams of sugar with 60% of your daily value.

This brings you a quarter of your daily calcium, too, if you eat the entire thing.

Those rainbow sprinkles on the ingredient list really get my attention. Then comes all of our different colors like Yellow 5 & 6, Blue 1, etc.

Who could forget the maltodextrin, carnauba wax, and that oh-so-delicious carrageenan?

Then last but not least, it contains milk and soy. So, if you have a milk or soy allergy, don’t eat that!

The Review

First impressions of this were that the entire thing tasted like the frosting on a Dairy Queen ice cream birthday cake. That’s a good thing. Yes, that’s a pretty artificial taste, but, it’s pretty good either way. Can’t complain about that.

Even two or three hours after eating this, it actually sat pretty well with me. Not saying that I expected it to make me ill, sick, but ice cream’s ice cream.

The unicorn taste wasn’t as pungent as I thought. Frankly, it was hard to tell it was even there. I’m sure that the purification process strips the meat of most of its crystals, so I wasn’t expecting much. I do fully intend to be able to fly later.
