A Little History on Langley Federal Credit Union
LFCU started around the same time that most credit unions out there did, the mid-1930s. The original founding group of employees worked at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. Today, NACA is known as NASA and, well, space. It’s what they do.
Today, LFCU has assets over $4 billion. Their cash is available at a few ATMs and other shared branches in the local area. It looks like they are not part of the CO-OP ATM network, so that will limit the locations where you can get cash.
Do They Give Back At All?
Langley Federal Credit Union does a lot to give back to the community. Some of the highlights of their work are volunteerism, employee contributions, disaster relief, scholarships, and teacher mini-grants.
I like that with the disaster relief, not every CU gives back in that way. It’s especially important with things like coronavirus going on. Some of the things they did were donating $364,200 to COVID relief efforts. Their employees also raised $7,000 to purchase more than 2,000 pounds of food for the Virginia Peninsula Food bank, among other efforts.

Langley Federal Credit Union – Final Thoughts
LFCU is a solid looking credit union in Virginia. Their history is pretty interesting, too, since they started with the original version of NASA. Rates are pretty good for the most part, although their extra personal loan rate is pretty high. It’s great to see all the different ways that they give back to the community, too. Their product selection is also very extensive.
