A Little History

River Region Credit Union has been around for a while, although they started a little later than most CU’s. Many were established in the 1930’s, and River Region was started in 1954.

Today, they have assets of $375 million, according to their NCUA profile. Since they are also part of the CO-OP network of ATMs, you can access your cash surcharge-free at over 30,000 locations nationwide.

Do They Give Back?

They do give back by offering college scholarships at RRCU. Their website doesn’t really mention anything else about charitable efforts.

Membership Requirements at River Region Credit Union

In order to qualify for membership at RRCU, you’ll need to meet some requirements. If you live or work in Boone, Cole, Osage, Callaway, Moniteau, or Miller counties of Missouri, then you’re in.

At first, it looks like there’s much tighter requirements than the typical credit union has. Most of them allow just about anybody through different connections with employers, family, or geographic areas.

However, this one has an additional page where they discuss all the different ways that people can get in, including being part of the Missouri National Guard, MoDot, and many other companies in Missouri.

Products at River Region Credit Union

RRCU just offers personal products (from what it looks like). If you’re in the market for personal checking or savings, it would be a great fit. Small business owners should look to a different bank or credit union for their financial needs.

You can choose from checking, savings, certificates, IRAs, and Money Market accounts at River Region Credit Union. They also offer home loans, auto loans, credit cards, and credit lines.

For being a mid-size credit union, they have a ton of checking accounts. There’s Cashback Checking Plus – 3% Cash Back, Cashback Checking – 1.5% Cash Back, High Yield Checking, EasySaver Checking, Free Checking, and Fresh Start Checking.

If you’re really new to the financial world and don’t know where to start, the Free Checking account looks solid. There’s no minimum balance required, no monthly service charges, unlimited transactions, and free convenience checks. They aren’t kidding when they say “Free.”

There are a decent amount of loan products here. They have First Mortgages and Refinancing, Home Equity Lines of Credit, Land Loans, and Construction Loans. There are also various auto loans and a couple credit cards.

Those include Mastercard – Platinum Plus, Mastercard MEMBERCash, and Mastercard – Secured.

River Region Credit Union – Final Thoughts

RRCU looks like a great local credit union to keep your money at. They have a lot of different options as far as checking accounts go, which is unique to a CU their size. There aren’t a ton of charitable efforts going on besides the scholarship program that they offer. Because of their wide-ranging ATM network, you’ll be able to get cash in pretty much every city nationwide.
