A Little History On Neighbors Credit Union
This non-for-profit financial institution was formed March 16, 1928. They were a little bit ahead of their time, a lot of CU’s were formed during depression-era times. Originally, this credit union was just for postal workers and probably their families.
Today, they have grown pretty big and have assets of just under $500 dollars, according to the NCUA database.
They are also part of the CO-OP ATM network, so, you can find over 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs of theirs nationwide.
Do They Give Back?
Neighbors Credit Union supports a ton of different community organizations. Those include big ones like the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and smaller local ones like St. Louis Pet Rescue and South County Kiwanis.
Membership Requirements at Neighbors Credit Union
If you want to join NCU, then you will need to meet some requirements. Those include if you or a relative lives or works within St. Louis City or County, Jefferson County, St. Charles County, Madison County, Monroe County, or St. Clair County.
There are a lot of employee groups that can qualify you, like working for Costco or the Scottrade center. Frankly, there’s too many to list, so just look at their page of them here.
Products at NCU
Neighbors Credit Union offers the full spectrum of products you would find at a big bank or other credit union. That includes products for checking, savings, investments, loans, credit cards, insurance, and various business services.
They also have some unique products and services, like their ClickSWITCH offering, which allows someone to easily switch to NCU from their old financial institution. Their checking accounts are the Simple Checking Account, Interest Checking Account, Basic Business Checking, Preferred Business Checking, Premier Business Checking. Debit cards are also available.
The personal savings accounts at Neighbors Credit Union are their Regular Savings Account, Escrow Savings Account, Christmas Club, and Your Extra Savings (Y.E.S.) Club. You can also find CDs, IRAs, and Money Market Accounts.
Clubs and Credit Cards at Neighbors Credit Union
NCU has offerings that they call “Clubs” which all look like they’re basically different kinds of savings accounts. Some of them, like the S.M.A.R.T. Student Club, also provides educational resources to people age 0-22 so they can get “the right foundation” for their finances, according to the website.
Something pretty unique about the S.M.A.R.T. club is how there’s a 10.00% Annual Percentage Yield on the first $1,000 deposited into the account. I like that a lot since it will help kids really understand the power of investing their money.
You can choose from three major Visa cards at Neighbors Credit Union. Those include the Visa Platinum Breeze Credit Card, and the Visa Platinum Secured Card.
Business and Insurance
Their business products and services include checking, money market accounts, loans, credit cards, online banking, and business merchant services. Business loans at NCU cover things like commercial real estate, residential real estate, construction, motor vehicle, machinery, equipment, term, business line-of-credit, stand by letters of credit and others.
Insurance products include deposit insurance, loan insurance, accidental death & dismemberment insurance, life insurance, and hospital accident plans (HAPs).
The Hospital Accident Plan gives you benefits if a covered accidents puts you in the hospital. Those include cash benefits of $1,800 a day in Intensive Care Confinement and $900 a day Hospital Confinement. I don’t think I’ve seen another CU that offers this type thing, that’s very unique and potentially useful.

Neighbors Credit Union – Final Thoughts
NCU is a great medium-sized credit union to keep your money at if you fall into their field of membership. They have some really unique offerings that you won’t find at other ones, like the financial education for youth/teens/college students and that Hospital Action Plan.
Their business offerings are pretty robust, too, and it’s a good place to check out if you are a small business owner. Neighbors Credit Union also does a great job of giving back to the community in more ways than the average credit union their size. Do you have a review from doing business with them personally or working there? Please leave it below. We need your email in case the NCU management teams wants to contact you to resolve any issues.
