A Little History on Great Plains Federal Credit Union
Forming a little later than the average credit union, this one was started in 1950. As with many other CU’s, it was formed to serve one group of employees at a chemical plant in Kansas City, Missouri.
Throughout many changes of sponsors, acquisitions, and continued growth, they are now a pretty big CU in Missouri.
According to their NCUA profile, their assets are over $350 million, too. Not bad at all. Because of their partnerships with Transfund and Moneypass ATMs, you can get your cash at over 30,000 different places nationwide and surcharge-free.
Do they give back at all?
It does not look like they are involved with any charitable efforts based on a search of their website.
Membership Requirements
If you want to join Great Plains Federal Credit Union, then you will need to meet some requirements. Depending on where you’re living, working, worshiping, or going to school, those play a major part in your chances of getting there.
Most credit unions have their eligibility requirements pretty clearly outlined on their websites, but, GPFCU would prefer that you call them at (800) 388-1318 or contact a local branch to find out if you qualify for membership. If you operate in a county where one of their branches is located, then you’re in.
Family members can also get you in, so, ask around to see if anyone belongs in case you don’t meet the other requirements.
Great Plains Federal Credit Union Products
GPFCU is just focused on personal products, so, it doesn’t look like there are any major business offerings. You can get a business credit card, though. They have three major checking accounts that you can choose from, which is about average among credit unions.
There’s the Economy Share Draft Account, Regular Share Draft Account, and Money Market Share Draft Account. The first account (Economy) does not pay any dividends but there’s also no minimum balance requirements or transaction limitations.
The Regular Share Draft Account at Great Plains Federal Credit Union earns interest monthly on balances of $500 or more. You will need to pay a monthly fee on this account if the balance falls below $500 at any time during a given month.
Their Money Market is the big one, so, if you have a lot of money to earn dividends with, this is the account you need. You will earn interest compounded monthly on balances of $2,500 or more.
Additional Products
They have a basic savings account ( which is necessary to maintain a membership, too). That has a $25 minimum opening deposit, no monthly maintenance fees, and other features.
You can also find CDs, IRAs, debit cards and credit cards at Great Plains Federal Credit Union, too. Their loan products can cover most personal purchases. Those include auto loans, mortgages, and personal loans.
They offer insurance through TruStage.
