Subscribe to our food YouTube channel!!

On this week’s Midnight Snack, we take a look at the Trader Joe’s Chicken Chile Verde Burrito. Since the last burrito we ate was from a gas station and called “The Bomb,” chances are that this one will be a step up. Not that the last one was all that bad.

Getting into the nutrition facts, this packs a little bit of everything. It’s pretty sodium-heavy, but, this could be the main course for dinner.

Yes, I’d like one whole chicken leg please.

That’s calcium chloride blocked out by the glare. These are a healthy mix of leg, breast and rib meat – a full body chicken experience!

The never ending battle of oven vs. microwave

These cooking instructions get pretty high-maintenance. First, you need to go full-on Michael Myers with the burrito and poke a couple holes in it.

You will need to impale your burrito multiple times in order for it to cook properly.

This is important. After that, you need to run it under water (a first, but makes sense) in order to get the burrito moist. Finally, drape it with a paper towel so this bountiful offering from Trader Joe’s is ready for the microwave. You could always bake it, too, and skip all that. But then it will take a bit longer, eh.

It may look like mush, but it had a nice flavor and consistency. Some people hem and haw at dark or white meat, but there doesn’t seem like much of a different taste-wise in this. The taste from our chicken was great and a distant spice came from the sauce. Definitely not overwhelming, but a person will know it’s there.

This almost tasted like a chicken pot pie put into a burrito. Simple, yet effective ingredients make this worth having in the fridge. Over the course of 24 hours, it didn’t make me sick or do what burritos stereo typically might to a person’s digestive tract. At 2.99 for two of these in each pack, they were definitely worth it.
