Millville Crispy Oats From Aldi Review

Millville Crispy Oats are in my bowl for this review and they look pretty familiar. Almost like the Cheerios I’ve had a few times. But those had all kinds of fancy chocolate and peanut butter flavors in them. I’ve also done some berry flavored Cheerios or something like that a few months back.

These are Aldi’s answer to regular old Cheerios. No honey, no nuts, no nothin’. They keep it simple with reasonable promises – like 38 grams of whole grains per serving. I’ve always enjoyed Cheerios and knockoff versions, to be honest with you. They’re a food that’s both fun and healthy.

Maybe calling Millville Crispy Oats in their most basic form “fun” is a stretch, but, the other versions definitely are. You can also do a lot with them, like making different bar recipes. Bar as in upper-midwest potluck dessert, not an establishment selling booze.

At the Aldi I typically shop at, these run $1.19, pretty good considering the nutritional value that we’ll talk about in a minute. The prices could always be different where you’re at, too.

Millville Crispy Oats Nutrition Facts

Millville Crispy Oats Nutrition Facts

These nutrition facts show that you get 8 servings per container. Something I really like about these is that a serving is also a cup and a half. Typically, a lot of the sugar cereals I review are only 1 cup for a serving. Nicely done, Millville Crispy Oats.

You’ll be getting 160 calories in this, which hardly contains any fat content. Probably could have guessed that. I’m a little surprised that there’s even 3% of your daily saturated fat in there at all. The rest of it is good fat though, so there’s that. No cholesterol and a little bit of sodium.

The bulk of what you’re getting in this is carbs. There’s 30 grams or 11% of your daily value in one serving. One interesting thing I just noticed is that it has 1 gram of soluble fiber and 2 grams of insoluble fiber. Both of them carry benefits, according to Healthline.

There’s no sugar at all in this and a solid 5 grams of protein. As I started to mention earlier, these Millville Crispy Oats also have a ton of various vitamins and minerals in them.

The Vitamins and Minerals

Taking it from the top, these have a ton of iron in them. You get 80% of your daily value in one serving. That’s a ton of iron! Then there’s a substantial amount of zinc – 60% of your daily value of that. Going down the list a little quicker now, you’ll get 50% of your Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, and Folate in the Millville Crispy Oats. There’s also a few other good ones in there.

Ingredients in Millville Crispy Oats

knockoff Cheerios ingredients

I won’t repeat all the vitamins/minerals, so the rest of this is pretty simple. Whole grain oat flour, wheat starch, calcium carbonate, trisodium phosphate and caramel color. Only a little artificial or chemically sounding stuff in the Millville Crispy Oats, nice!

The Review

Instead of just eating these dry or with a bowl of milk, I put them into a bowl with some mixed berries and a protein shake concoction that I like to have first thing every day. There were also some walnuts in there, which I usually have, too. It’s definitely tasty and you can tell all that extra iron is in there a few minutes after eating it.

Maybe that’s just me, but my teeth sort of feel weird if I eat a ton of iron in one sitting. It’s not a bad feeling, just different. For me, I did need the extra fruit added in to make things a little more exciting. What can I say, basic Cheerios and their knockoffs are kind of boring. The nutritional benefits are way more important, but you do need to get a little creative so it doesn’t just feel like you’re eating medication. I’d say that after adding in my fruit/protein/nut mix to the Millville Crispy Oats, it was about as fun as eating some Tricks or Lucky Charms.
