Right away, I can tell that this Wisconsin CU cares about their customer experience. A website says a lot about a business these days, and theirs does a great job of making visitors feel comfortable.
The main attention-getting thing I noticed right away was how it was themed for October (when I originally wrote this). They offer specialized “pumpkin spice loans” that were being advertised front-and-center on their home page.
The other interesting thing about Verve Credit Union is that they have a spokesperson. There’s a guy named Merv (also on the home page) who’s their “straight-shooting (and a little quirky) spokesperson.” Neat.
A Little History
There isn’t much out there on Verve’s history other than its founding in 1937. Since that time, this Wisconsin CU has grown to over a billion dollars in assets with nearly 66,000 members.
Membership At Verve Credit Union
In order to qualify for membership, you will need to either live, work, or worship within their area of membership. If you have immediate family that’s currently part of this CU, then that also qualifies you for membership.
That’s pretty standard at most credit unions. I think almost every single one that I’ve written about has been that way, actually.
You can live in either Wisconsin or Minnesota and a number of different counties are covered.
There are 23 WI counties: those are Brown, Buffalo, Calumet, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Jackson, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Monroe, Outagamie, Ozaukee, Portage, Sheboygan, Trempealeau, Vernon, Washington, Waushara, Waupaca and Winnebago.
In Minnesota, it’s just Houston and Winona counties. There are a few other ways to qualify, you can check those out here.
Financial Products At Verve Credit Union
They have three main areas of financial products at VCU. There’s saving/spending, borrowing products, and business products, so, you should be in good shape for most needs.
The saving/spending products include checking accounts, money markets, certificates, IRAs, Health Savings Accounts, and Wealth Management services.
Looking at their borrowing options, there are a number of those, too. You can choose from auto/recreational loans, home loans, home equity loans, credit cards, and personal loans.
It isn’t mentioned on their main menu, but, there is a student loan option through Sallie Mae with Verve Credit Union. They call it their “Smart Option” and it has fixed and variable rates.
Something that I like about it is that you can borrow up to 100% of your school’s educational costs. The minimum student loan amount is $1,000.
Let’s be honest, with the cost of college these days, it’s not difficult to meet that minimum.
Business Products and Services at Verve Credit Union
If you run a business, then they can provide you with payroll, electronic deposit services, and Credit Card Processing.
They also have HSAs, so, everyone can be set in terms of saving for big medical bills. There’s a tiered interest rate system for those.
You can choose from business checking, savings, and credit card options. Need a business loan? Verve Credit Union does those, too.
Choose from SBA Loans, Commercial Term Loans, and Commercial Lines of Credit. Those term loans are great for things like commercial real estate loans, multi-family/rental property loans, and other major business purchases.
Their Business Money Market account (at the time of this writing) has a dividend rate/APY of .05% on balances between $2,500-$24,999.99. Their highest dividend rate/APY is .35% on balances of $2,000,000+.
