Some of Their History
I love when credit unions give a really detailed history on their websites. Heartland Credit Union does just that. In fact, they give details right down to the first loan granted by their team.
They were started in a cold February 1936. I can personally attest that the heartland gets very cold around that time of year. Like, freezing your toes off cold. Anyway, it looks like they started on the first floor of a telephone company building in Madison, Wisconsin.
They probably enjoyed their cheese. Their first employee was a man named John Cash. After doing some digging, I couldn’t find whether there was any relationship to THE Johnny Cash or not.
On their first night in business, Heartland Credit Union took in some money and gave out their first loan to a guy named Nick Guerten. Close to 100 years later, they have assets of over $400 million dollars in assets and are still going strong today.
