Bring Water to a Boil, Set Timer for 8-12 Minutes

When you’re in school, often times it’s hard to cook for yourself. There’s a dining hall, Mac Don’s, and of course, pizza delivery. But, like many college students, you probably don’t have a ton of money to just kick around at the Toppers or Dominos guy. Because of that, it’s probably best to arm yourself with some basic knowledge of how to slap a meal together on the cheap. That’s where pasta comes in.

It’s been around for thousands of years, and dry pasta seems to stay good in the cabinet for even longer. On top of that, you can cook it right in your dorm room if you have a hot plate, medium sized pot, colander and sink. But don’t take our word for it, see what world renowned chef Emeril has to say:

Bam indeed. This easy recipe for pasta with red sauce and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese can turn your dorm into a fancy Italian kitchen in less than half an hour.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dry spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1.5 cup tomato basil sauce

Instructions

Fill the pot with 4-6 quarts of water and bring to a boil.

After water is boiling, set timer for 8-12 minutes and slide dry spaghetti into the pot. With a utensil, start moving it around and stir occasionally.

Once your time is up, turn off the burner, place the colander in your sink (or the hall sink if you don’t have one) and pour the pasta out into it.

Once most of the water is out, put the pasta back into the pot and set it on the stove.

Pour your tomato basil sauce into the pot, stirring it around. Once mixed in thoroughly, allow it to cool off.

Divvy up however much you plan on eating, whether all or half, to your plate.

Sprinkle a handful of your parm on top, and eat up!
